Membership in the GK
Membership in the GK generally allows members to participate in a network of researchers interested in cognitive science and includes, among other benefits, a discounted rate for attending the Society’s annual conference. In addition, members can participate in the Society’s various awards and funding programs and help shape the Society in a variety of ways, not least by serving on the Executive Board, the Advisory Board, or one of the committees.
You can apply for membership in the Society for Cognitive Science / Gesellschaft für Kognitionswissenschaft (GK) online. Since the information requested has been limited to the bare minimum, filling out the application takes only a few minutes. In addition, student members (see below) must upload a certificate of enrollment. You will receive immediate confirmation of a three-month trial membership, which entitles you, for example, to discounts when registering for the symposium or other conferences that offer discounts to GK members. Within three months, the Board of Directors will review whether the trial membership will be converted to full membership.
There are two types of membership.
Regular members old a master’s degree (or an internationally equivalent degree) or a doctorate in the field of cognitive science or one of its related disciplines. Alternatively, in addition to a master’s degree (or equivalent) or a doctoral dissertation in another field, you may also have at least two additional peer-reviewed scientific publications on relevant topics in cognitive science. Regular members have all the usual rights as members of the association and the right to participate in decision-making.
Student Members are enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree program. Student members have all the usual rights of association membership with one exception: Student membership is contingent upon the submission of a certificate of enrollment. Upon initial registration, proof of enrollment is valid for the year of admission and two additional years. Accordingly, a certificate of enrollment must be uploaded unsolicited by the end of February of each year; this certificate then serves as proof of student status for the entire year. If no proof of student status is provided (even after a reminder), student status is formally maintained, but the full membership fee (as for regular members) becomes automatically due.

The GK General Assembly has set the annual membership fees as follows: 30 euros for student members and 70 euros for regular members.
