Wir sind die Gesellschaft für Kognitionswissenschaft e.V.
The Gesellschaft für Kognitionswissenschaft e.V. (GK) (transalted to English: Society for Cognitive Science) was founded in 1994 to support scientific progress in cognitive research and to create an overarching organizational framework for the growing connections between the relevant disciplines.
Toward a Comprehensive Understanding of Cognitive Performance
Cognitive science, with a tradition spanning more than forty years, aims to scientifically understand the cognitive performance of humans and other organisms and to replicate it in technical systems.
Fostering Synergies Among Different Research Approaches
One of the GK’s goals is to foster synergies among the various research approaches that focus on cognitive performance. The aim is to comprehensively support the advancement of cognitive science—from university teaching and research projects to the exploration of its practical applications and the associated career opportunities.
Interdisciplinary Approach – Broad Range of Methods
A defining feature of cognitive science is its interdisciplinary approach, which combines methods from behavioral and neuroscience with techniques from computer science. In addition, it draws on methods from linguistics and the philosophy of mind. All work in cognitive science is united by the fundamental assumption that cognitive processes can be viewed as computational processes. They can be carried out by the brain’s neurons or by a computer’s hardware. In addition to interdisciplinary basic research, there is a growing trend toward the practical application of findings from cognitive science in intelligent technical systems.
The Gesellschaft für Kognitionswissenschaft is open to anyone with an enthusiasm for research in cognitive science.
