W2 TT W3 Professorship in Knowledge-Based Systems (f/m/d) at the Institute for Information Systems (IFIS) at the University of Lübeck
The University of Lübeck’s Institute for Information Systems (IFIS) is seeking to fill a W2 TT W3 professorship in Knowledge-Based Systems (f/m/d).
The professorship is initially a 5-year fixed-term W2 position, with the possibility of conversion to a tenured position and simultaneous promotion to W3 upon a positive evaluation.
We are seeking a candidate who has demonstrated outstanding excellence through exceptional research in the fundamental areas of computer science relevant to the advertised professorship and who will represent these areas in both research and teaching.
The holder of the professorship is expected to establish their own research group at the Institute for Information Systems (www.ifis.uni-luebeck.de). Furthermore, the future incumbent should demonstrate outstanding academic achievements, a successful track record in securing external funding (particularly from the DFG), and experience with interdisciplinary projects. In addition, the candidate should have an international reputation and verifiable research experience in one or more of the following research areas:
· Modeling and representation of contextual knowledge
· Cognitively inspired information processing
· Data management
· Application of databases in the field of complex systems
· Ontologies (e.g., Semantic Web).
We are seeking a candidate who idealy works at the intersection of cognitively inspired approaches to knowledge and practical computer science. Previous experience in the fields of human-centered AI, intelligent systems, and robotics is an asset.
We expect a willingness to collaborate within IFIS and the Department of Computer Science, to establish potential connections with medical informatics and other university institutes, and to collaborate with the university’s Scientific Computing unit. The scope of responsibilities also includes securing external funding and leading interdisciplinary projects. The candidate is expected to contribute academically to the institute’s research priorities as well as the university’s profile areas, in particular LEMMI (Lübeck Environments for Minds and Machines in Interaction, https://www2.uni-luebeck.de/lemmi/) and “Human-AI Interaction.” In terms of teaching, the successful candidate is expected to teach the “Databases” course and contribute to the “Computer Science” (Bachelor’s and Master’s, German-language) and “Artificial Intelligence” (Master’s, part-time, English-language) degree programs, as well as other degree programs in the university’s STEM departments.
