It’s an honour and a pleasure to announce that the Carnap Lectures in
2025 will be delivered by
*Prof. Peter Carruthers, University of Maryland*
For the last decades, he has contributed a rich body of very influential
work on many aspects of the mind, engaging with work in philosophy of
mind, philosophy of psychology, and cognitive science which will be
reflected in his four lectures:
Lecture 1: The Interpretative Sensory-Access Theory of Self-Knowledge:
The Case of Inner Speech
Lecture 2: Understanding Human Motives: Hedonism, Altruism, and
Tribalism */(Public Lecture)/
*Lecture 3: The Nature of Pleasure and Desire: Where Philosophers Go Wrong
Lecture 4: Stop Caring About (Phenomenal) Consciousness
*Call for Papers:*
We invite PhD students and Postdocs up to five years after PhD
completion (2020 or later) to submit abstracts (max. 700 words), making
thesis and argument transparent. Papers will be selected based on a
blind review process. Presenters will receive a financial support in
form of a lump sum of 100 Euro (for travel within Germany), 200 Euro
(travel in the rest of Europe), and 400 Euro (travel worldwide).
Presentations should address topics related to the main recearch topics
of the rich work of Peter Carruthers (even if going beyond the topics of
presentation).
