A BAT IIa (0.5) position is available beginning March 2004. The position is founded by the German Science Foundation. The successful applicant should prepare, run, and analyze the outlined experiments supported by student assistants. Results should be presented at national and international conferences and summarized in articles. Applicants should have a degree in Psychology or Linguistics with a strong background in research methods, experimental and cognitive psychology as well as in statistics. Expertise in conducting eye-tracking experiments in production is welcome but not a requirement. The project investigates whether morphologically complex words are used as specifications in certain production contexts. The pragmatic situation and the time pressure are manipulated hoping to elicit morphologically complex answers. Semantically and/or phonologically related distractors will be presented along with the target picture. Picture-naming and picture-word interference naming latencies are the main dependent variable besides eye-tracking data. Applications received by January 30, 2004 will receive full consideration.
