On 1 Jan 2003, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) establishes the interdisciplinary Transregional Collaborative Research Center (SFB/TR 8) at the Universities Bremen and Freiburg (Coordinator: Prof. Christian Freksa, Ph.D.). Spatial Cognition is concerned with the acquisition, organization, utilization, and revision of knowledge about spatial environments, be it real or abstract, human or machine. Research issues range from the investigation of human spatial cognition to mobile robot navigation. The goal of the SFB/TR is to investigate the cognitive foundations for human-centered spatial assistance systems. The SFB/TR is structured into the three research areas Reasoning -- Action -- Interaction Reasoning comprises projects that are concerned with internal and external representations of space and with inference processes using these representations. Action comprises projects that are concerned with the acquisition of information from spatial environments and with actions and behavior in these environments. Interaction comprises projects that are concerned with communication about space by means of language and maps. The SFB/TR is part of an active and growing interdisciplinary international research network. For highly motivated and creative young scientists the SFB/TR provides an excellent and stimulating research environment to pursue a scientific career. In the SFB/TR and its immediate vicinity, the following positions are available: 1 Research Assistant (BAT IIa) Informatics / Cognitive Modeling, Universität Bremen 2 Research Assistants (BAT IIa) Informatics / Cognitive Robotics, Universität Bremen 3 Research Assistants (BAT IIa) Informatics / Formal Methods, Universität Bremen 2 Teaching / Research Assistants (BAT IIa / C1) Informatics / Cognitive Science, Universität Bremen 1 Research Assistant (BAT IIa) Computational Linguistics / Ontology, Universität Bremen 1 Research Assistant (BAT IIa) Informatics / Spatio-Temporal Reasoning, Universität Freiburg 1 Research Assistant (BAT IIa) Cognitive Psychology / Cognitive Neuroscience, Universität Freiburg 2 Research Assistants (1/2 BAT IIa) Cognitive Psychology / Cognitive Modeling, Universität Freiburg The Universities Bremen and Freiburg are equal opportunity employers.
