Subject to the granting of funds from responsible federal ministry, and in
anticipation of the planned changes to the federal statutory framework 
governing higher education, the Albert-Ludwigs-University,
Freiburg im Breisgau, will appoint a 

Junior Professor in Applied Cognitive Science. 

The prerequisites of this appointment are a completed tertiary degree,
pedagogical aptitude and exceptional abilities in the field of scientific
work. The latter is evidenced by a doctorate of outstanding quality,
completed no longer than 5 years previously. 

The position of junior professor involves independently taking charge of
scientific exercises, research and lecturing. Provided the junior professor
proves to be outstanding, a three year extension of the position will be
possible.  

The position is that of an employee with remuneration according to 1b
BAT. Provided future legislation permits, the assumption of the position
will deem the junior professor a civil servant. 

The successful applicant's main research area should fall within applied
cognitive science (e.g. HCI, new media, knowledge management). S/he should
take part in the basic training in this subject area (in particular
cognitive modelling, hence the connection between empirical research and
computer simulation). It is expected that the junior professor will, after
two years of employment, conduct lectures in German.

Einstellungsvoraussetzung ist ein abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium,
Pädagogische Eignung, besondere Befähigung zu wissenschaftlicher Arbeit, die
in der Regel durch die herausragenden Qualitäten einer Promotion
nachgewiesen wird, die nicht länger als 5 Jahre zurückliegt. 

Mit einer Juniorprofessur ist die selbständige Wahrnehmung von Aufgaben in
Wissenschaft, Forschung und Lehre verbunden. Sie wird für drei Jahre
besetzt. Bei Bewährung ist eine Verlängerung um weitere drei Jahre möglich.

Einstellung im Angestelltenverhältnis mit der Vergütung nach I b BAT. Sofern
es die Gesetze später zulassen, erfolgt die Übernahme in ein
Zeitbeamtenverhältnis. 

Der/die Stelleninhaber/in soll einen Forschungsschwerpunkt in einem
Anwendungsbereich der Kognitionswissenschaft setzen (z. B. HCI, Neue Medien,
Wissensmanagement) und sich auch an der Grundausbildung im Fach
(insbes. kognitive Modellierung, also Verbindung von empirischer Forschung
und Computersimulation) beteiligen.
